Chinmay Goyal, studying in IIT Kanpur as a B.Tech student will do his summer internship in QUANT profile at TOWER RESEARCH
- HAD PRACTICED ON CODEFORCES BEFORE BUT BEGAN PREPARATION PROPERLY FROM THE MONTH OF JUNE. DID LEETCODE AS INTERVIEW QUESTIONS ARE DIRECTLY ASKED FROM IT. - NOT PREPARED SPECIFICALLY FOR ANY PROFILE BUT WANTED TO GO INTO SOFTWARE, SO QUANT AND SOFTWARE PROFILES. - CAN START CODING FROM CODEFORCES. DO THE CONTESTS AS THEY HELP IN INTERVIEW TESTS AND PROVIDE A VARIETY OF QUESTIONS. IF ONE DOES NOT KNOW A CONCEPT SIMPLY SEARCH THAT PARTICULAR CONCEPT AND SEE THE SOLUTION OF EVERY CONTEST QUESTION AFTER THE CONTEST ENDS. DO LEETCODE OR INTERVIEWBIT 1-2 MONTHS BEFORE THE INTERNSHIP SEASON BEGINS. - SOFTWARE PROFILES DON’T FOCUS A LOT ON PUZZLES. THERE IS AN APTITUDE SECTION ON INTERVIEWBIT, CAN PRACTICE QUESTIONS FROM THERE. DID FIRST TWO WEEKS OF CS203 AND JEE LEVEL PROBABILITY. - PRACTICE SOME GENERAL HR QUESTIONS BEFORE THE INTERVIEW BEGINS LIKE INTRODUCE YOURSELF, WHY DO YOU WANT TO JOIN THIS COMPANY ETC. - SEE THE RESUME OF SENIORS AS YOU CAN GET DIFFERENT POINTS TO WRITE IN YOUR RESUME, GET YOUR RESUME REVIEWED BY SENIORS, DON’T WRITE A LOT ABOUT POR’S AS COMPANIES, IN GENERAL, DON’T CARE MUCH ABOUT SMALL POR’S LIKE JUNIOR OR SENIOR EXECUTIVE. IF YOU DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP QUALITY IN YOUR POR THEN THAT MATTERS. THEY CAN DISCUSS SOME PROJECTS IN YOUR RESUME. REFRAIN FROM WRITING EXTRA-CURRICULARS IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO WRITE.
- There were 4 rounds for Tower Research. Asked questions on coding and probability. In one round(specific for Tower Research), they tell about the work that they do and ask you what you could do in a particular situation. You cannot prepare for this part just your logic during that time of the interview and then there’s a HR round where general HR questions were asked - Practice coding as much as you can from Codeforces, Leetcode, InterviewBit etc. Emphasize more on Leetcode than InterviewBit if you have time as InterviewBit is a subset of Leetcode and you can try InterviewBit for some specific sections like Arrays, LinkedLists. If preparing for software roles, should also know Object Oriented Programming. DE-Shaw focuses a lot on OOP. - Second-year interns don’t carry a lot of value, so if you don’t have one, not a problem. If you have one don’t leave intern prep for the end as it becomes really hectic at the end. Do it side by side with the intern. If you have a project then also do the intern prep side by side. If you don’t have anything for summers then just do CP and you’ll be good to go for a software profile. You should be confident during the interview. Even if you don’t know the answer, you should not look sad. Have a good grasp of English. You should not hesitate to speak in English in front of the interviewer.
